Cost Effective Internet
Recognizing the need for cost effective broadband Internet service, the County is working to expand the existing infrastructure of LHTC Broadband in the Waymart / Canaan Township area to the Business Park on Routes 191/196 in Sterling Township.
Funding
The county received a $300,000 grant in support of the project from the Local Share (Gaming) Account for Mount Airy Casino.
LHTC Broadband recently completed the engineering/permitting phase of the project and will begin installing the 144-count fiber line this Fall. Approximately 12.5 miles of new telecommunication fiber will run along Route 196, through the Hamlin four corners, to the Sterling Business & Technology Park. Internet speeds of 25 Mbps, 50Mbps or greater will be available when the project is complete.
